The watchphone is the must-have gadget Of 2010?
Every time some fresh new plaything arrives in view of the people, people always winder one question: is it a gadget or a gimmick?
And when a nice man from Orange come to my office on monday this week, I quickly firmly believe that the watch cell phone he was carrying was a little more like a gimmick than a gadget –though it is an expensive one.
What he'd weared in his hand was described as "the world's first touchscreen watchphone".
It's made by LG and Orange has the exclusive deal to sell it in the UK on a pay-as-you-go deal for only £500.
You can make calls just by tapping on the watchface –which was pretty curious in my option. - but it comes with a Bluetooth headset,it can help make it easier to receive calls.
I think It's not really a smartphone - for instance, you can't surf the web, also you can’t drive freely around town with it – however, what is unexpected,it does have video calling function.
Of course the video calling helps the watchphone achieve what must be its primary aim - to make the wearer feel like a rather retro action hero from a spy movie. James Bond? The Saint? Or maybe Austin Powers?
The trouble is, that if you'd had one of these phones in the 1980s, you might well have been the object of wonder and admiration as you dialled up Mission Control from your wrist, or spoke to Miss Moneypenny.
In short,I got conclusion like this: a gimmick, not a gadget.
But just while I was explaining all this to the man from Orange - while he listened with a embarrassed and stiff smile - a colleague stepped in.
He was a cameraman, was a little interested in gadgets, but a easier woreking life is more urgent need for him. "That's the future," he extremely interested. "I'm carrying all sorts of things with me, and just take along with the phone just as a watch, instead of a separate piece of kit, would be a life-saver."
While he was shocked by the price, he said he was sure that would mark down, and that the watchphone would gradually became popular.
So did I was wrong? Will the watch phone upgrade to be the must-have gadget of 2010,or it just will turn out to be a gimmick like the Sinclair C5, the internet-connected fridge and the Amstrad e-mailer, what just as I was considered.
