How to install firewire hard drive dock

You will need:

Silverstone Decathlon DA-800 PSU
Gigabyte X48T-DQ6
Windows Vista Home 64-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 45nm
Corsair XMS DDR3-1600 4GB kit
CoolIT Domino A.L.C. liquid cooling system
Thermaltake Xaser VI full tower
Asus Radeon HD 3850 X2 video card
Seagate Barracuda SATA 3.0 250 gig 3.5″ hard drive (to be used in the Icy Dock enclosure)

As my motherboard is not compatible with IEEE 1394b,at the same time I don’t have a Firewire 800 expansion card ,so I had to test the Icy Dock MB664UEB-1S with USB, which is used as interface by me anyway. Conveniently remind that though Firewire 800 is backwards compatible with firewire 400 hard drive dock, but the connectors of the tow are different, I haven’t mentioned up to this time. It means that the Firewire 800 connector will not fit the IEEE 1394a connector on your PC.

Step 1 check the SATA connectors

Installation is not easier at all. Make sure the enclosure is unlocked and press on the bottom of the front of the enclosure, the “door” should be absolutely opening. Look into the case to ensure the position of the SATA connectors.

Step 2 Insert the SATA drive dock

Insert the SATA drive into the enclosure and gently engage the SATA connectors. As the “door” closes while the drive is pushed forward, you need to make sure that the drive is inserted completely, pretty much only the end of your finger will fit at this time. Close the “door” until it locks in place.

Step 3 turn on the hard drive dock

Slide the lock down, and make sure the enclosure is locked. Insert the power connector, and power up the drive. Insert the USB cable, and connect the other end of the cable to your PC. Turn the I/O to “on”.

Initialize the new hard drive dock

If your hard drive dock ia a brand new one, you may need to initialize it, do that in below steps: Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management.
